MERRY CHRISTMAS, YIWU
Even though China does not celebrate Christmas, there are over 600 Christmas decoration factories in Yiwu, China open all year round. There are no high-tech machines, just people from all across the country working really hard putting glitter on baubles, pom poms on Christmas hats and assembling Father Christmases. With rising wages, the workers in Christmas factories can now afford the newest iPhones, but they still live in crowded dormitories, work long factory hours and breathe in chemical fumes and glitter particles. The film portrays a place where communism and globalism intersect and transform one another.
