MakeDox Traveling Cinema 2019
An old Ottoman defter, written of the Ohrid sandjak in 1583, holds the name of the village Radozhda as Radohozhda, meaning “I gladly go there ”. We grasp this notion and joyously head with our Travelling Cinema toward this place.
Last year we dared to compare ourselves with the eels who persistently break through any obstacles down the River Drim (a homophone of “dream”) to Lake Ohrid. Now we must honor our dare and keep on dreaming, carry on tenaciously like eels do. We certainly loved it!
The reasons for their toils finally made sense. What a relish!
Once again, this year we’ll circulate by our grandest waters. With eyes blurred, we were gazing down the vast distance over the lake when suddenly, in the wee small hours or during our siesta, a voice called out from the vastness, so we wondered: who are those people, how do they look, how do they live?
Now we are their guests-to-be. Some of them will meet us again while others for the very first time. Supported by the Macedonia Film Agency, the Embassy of Germany and the Western Balkans Fund, we’ll hang around with the locals for whom the lake is both a blessing and a curse. This year, with a number of guests from all over Europe, we’ll screen films and mingle in these villages: Labunishta, Buchimas, Vishni, Draslajca, Pustec, Lukovo and Lin.
Never heard of these before? Well, it’s not like you can see them from your window. Google them or follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Of course, if you’re up for a real adventure, come and join us! A place full of fresh air, water and fish, and locals that welcome you with an earnest handshake. Here time moves on one’s end while the onion burek comes as a bonus!
