In a world that is changing so fast that one cannot step into the same river twice, it is becoming even more difficult to distinguish truth from artificial intelligence and even more unbearable to accept that many realities – albeit often incredibly different – do exist at the same time.

But even in this world of contradictions, there is something that one can still distinguish unmistakably, even if it seems that it disappears while everything else around flows unstoppably. That is something that should never change, that we want to feel in the air just like we feel the scent of linden trees in June, that we want to see weighing down just like the branches full of mulberries do.

That is the consideration, that is the caring for the other, that is the willingness to rejoice and empathize with others. But for that to happen, one must first care about reality. And in order to care, one must be aware that no one is an island and that without others, sooner or later one will drown, regardless of how well one may seem to swim now.

Everyone should care about reality. Even more so when the reality is gut-wrenching, utterly painful and seemingly hopeless, so much that one wants it to be untrue. In such a reality, each and everyone of us should do as much as one can, because everyone can do at least something. In such reality, we must look not away from the pain, the anger and the despair, but directly towards them and use all our strength to transform the personal into a collective act of support and to create a space where it would be safe and welcome to feel it all and speak about it out loud. Because, paradoxically, it is precisely there, in the collective, where we will find the meaning and the strength to not only navigate through such reality but also to act.

Each of us can do at least something to make the present different. If we care about reality now, we won’t have to worry about the future later. 

We start with ourselves first. That’s why, this year, our Travelling Cinema is going to Kochani.
